- The proposal that John should be dismissed is unacceptable.
- The proposal that John put forward is unacceptable.
- We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by the Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I have no doubt that he will help me.
I have no doubt that he will do me a favour
We support the argument that the problems of school buses must be taken seriously.
We discuss the question whether the meeting should be held.
should be held,应该举行
A plan that a new subway station will be built here is welcomed.
- 同位语从句属于名词性从句的大类,使用关系词是that/whether/if/what/why/who,定语从句属于自身的大类,使用关系词是that/who/which/when/where。
We have no idea that the boss has been back. It is the most interesting movie that I have ever seen.
- descriptions (which were) given by people …
make descriptions
- 等价于,descriptions made by people
- (NCE3-1 P14-L7) The hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw a large cat only five yards away from her.
- (NCE3-7 P38-L10) John had a very good day and put his wallet containing ₤3,000 into the microwave oven for safekeeping.
- (NCE3-8 P42-L4) For hundreds of years, St. Bernard dogs have saved the lives of travellers crossing the dangerous Pass.
- novels written by Lu Xun.
- movies directed by Zhang Yimou.
- The man leaning against the wall named George is my brother.
1.2.5 to have done,
to have done相比to do,更强调在谓语动词之前的时间
- Fishermen and sailors sometimes claim to have seen monsters in the sea.
- claim to have done sth.
- Fishermen and sailors sometimes claim to see monsters in the sea.
- claim to do sth.

- It is my pleasure to help you.

- So far, no organization has claimed to be responsible for the accident.
= no matter + 疑问词
- No matter where it went = Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animals like rabbits.
- (NCE3-29 P138-L8) No matter where you live, you would find it difficult not to laugh at, say, Charlie Chaplin’s early films.
- People ran away to escape the tiger wherever it was seen.
- (NCE3-2 P18-L10) ‘Whatever are you doing up here Bill?’ asked the vicar in surprise.
- Wherever did you go yesterday?
- When ever am I going to see you again?
题目:
When will you ever learn?
- These things take time to learn.
- Will you study any more?
- √(C) Why do you keep on making the same mistakes?
- It will be a good learning experience for you.
When will you ever learn?
- a fur coat,裘皮大衣。
- fur and feather,飞禽走兽。 相当于bird and beast[biːst].
- fin, fur and feather,相当于all kinds of animals.
- The crown[kraʊn] should not yield[jiːld] to the cross[krɒs].
- The pen is mightier than the sword. pen指“文学的力量”, sword, 指”武力”。

- As no pumas had been reported missing from any zoo in the country.
- The fire was reported controlled. It is reported that the fire was controlled.
- Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes.
- must have done/must do,一定是,have done结构表示推测过去的事情。 The experts were now fully convinced that the animal could only have been a puma.
- You must have been ill yesterday. You looked so pale.
- She knew that it must be the baker.
- may / might have done,可能是
- can not / could not have done.
- You can’t have been ill yesterday. I saw you going shopping with your wife.
- (NCE3-60 P268-L27) The girl asked to see a timetable[ˈtaɪmteɪbl], feeling sure that her father could not have made such a mistake.
- should / ought to have done,责备别人/自责,该做的没有做
- should not / ought not to have done,责备别人/自责,不该做的却做了
例句:
- You should have finished your work yesterday.
- I shouldn’t have shouted at you yesterday.
She looks very happy. She ___ have passed the exam.
I guess so. It’s not difficult at all.
(A)should (B) could
√(C) must (D) might
* I can’t find my purse anywhere.
* You ___ have lost it while shopping.
√(A) may (B) can
(C) should (D) would
I’m sorry. I ___ at you the other day.
Forget it. I was a bit out of control myself.
(A) shouldn’t shout
√(B) shouldn’t have shouted
(C) mustn’t shout
(D) mustn’t have shouted
The policeman declared that the blow on the victim’s head ___ from behind.
(A) should have been made
√(B) must have been made
(C) would have been made
(D) ought to have been made
选A和D显然不对,因为should/ought to have done,都有责备的语气,警察不可能责备凶手应该从后面打受害人。
- another place twenty miles away…
- the way ahead.
- his trip abroad.

When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London, they were not taken seriously.
- had been spotted/seen/found/observed. 同义词
- they were not taken seriously. = they were taken lightly.
- When news came into the national museum that an ancient tomb had been found 100 kilometers south of Xi’an, it was taken seriously.
However, as the evidence began to accumulate, experts from the Zoo felt obliged to investigate, for the descriptions given by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar.
- given by people,非谓语动词done,作后置定语,修饰descriptions
- claim to have done …

- prove (to be) + adj.
Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animals like rabbits.
普通的写法是it left a trail of … behind it. 但是,因为宾语a trait of …
- a trail of ,一连串…
- deer/sheep/fish,单复数同型,而不是不可数名词。
Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes.

excuse[ɪkˈskju:s; ɪkˈskju:z],原谅。
第三种:[i][tis],浊化为[i] [ds]
Here it is. = It is here。发音上it is,可以连读为[i] [tis],在美式发音中it is还可以浊化为[i] [ds]。
- don’t you, won’t you , last year , situation
- did you , would you , graduate , credulous

- May I use your book? How’s your father?

- He came in and carried a book.
- He came in carrying a book.
- He came in and a book was in his hand.
- He came in (with) a book (being) in his hand.
6.2.2 介词with
He is with his new girlfriend。
I am with my new sunglasses。
The house is with a garden。
a piece of paper with her name and address on it.
a wallet with 200 dollars in it.
a bus with 500 people on it.
There is a label on the handle with my name and address on it.

He gave me a piece of paper with his phone number on it.
He passed me a note book with his diary in it.
He gave me a card with “I love you” on it.
I sat down one of those modern chairs with holes in it and waited.
- with … on/in it,描述的是label或者paper,而不是更靠近的handle和box
- with … on/in it,多用于描述标签,纸张,笔记,卡片,凳子等的内容
更加扩展的地方是,不一定要用on/in it,也只是用on/in sp. 表示伴随着有xxx在xxx。例如:
- In the struggle, the strap broke and, with the bag in their possession, both men started running through the trees.Lesson 44
6.2.3 doing
- Would you mind coming?
- Would you mind my coming?
- 形容词性的物主代词,my, your,he,her,their等
- Excuse my interrupting you. I. Lesson 92
- ‘Would you mind my coming with you.’ I. Lesson 68
- I hate to interrupt a man when he’s busy working, but would you mind coming with me to the station?’ 主句Would you mind的主语是you, coming的主语也是you,所以无需额外的逻辑主语。Lesson 92
